Standing With Our Neighbors: Texas Flood Relief
At Alabama Ag Credit, we believe in neighbors helping neighbors, especially when disaster strikes. In the wake of the devastating floods that swept through the Texas Hill Country over the Independence Day weekend, we are humbled to have played a small part in supporting relief and recovery efforts for the families and communities affected.
The torrential rains that pummeled the Hill Country caused the Guadalupe River to surge more than 26 feet in under an hour, with flash floods sweeping through Kerrville, Hunt, Ingram, Comfort, and surrounding areas. These catastrophic floods tragically claimed the lives of more than 100 people, including many children, with dozens still missing, including young campers from Camp Mystic.
In partnership with our Farm Credit family, and Farmer Mac we have collectively committed $285,000 to help those impacted begin to rebuild. Relief aid from these contributions will be sent to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund to support local families, communities, and agricultural-related needs.
"Playing even a small part in helping our neighbors rebuild after such heartbreaking loss means so much to us. At Alabama Ag Credit, we believe in standing with our communities, not just here at home but wherever our Farm Credit family can lend a helping hand,” Amber Pratt, Vice President of Communications, Alabama Ag Credit
Beyond these contributions, employees across the Farm Credit System nationwide are stepping up to support each other through the Farm Credit System Employee Relief Fund, a standing resource to help Farm Credit employees facing financial hardship due to natural disasters or other catastrophic events.
Additionally, the Texas Department of Agriculture’s State of Texas Agriculture Relief (STAR) Fund is accepting donations to help farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses recover from disasters like floods, wildfires, and storms, providing assistance to rebuild operations and cover agricultural relief expenses.
At Alabama Ag Credit, we are proud to stand with our Farm Credit partners, our communities, and our neighbors, near and far, when they need us most. It is in times like these that our cooperative spirit shines brightest.
