Members Represent Young Farmers on Capitol Hill

Alabama Ag Credit is proud to announce that Austin and Brittany Steen, owners of Hiccup Farm in Troy, Alabama, represented the association at the 2025 Farm Credit Young Leaders Program in New York City and Washington, D.C.

As part of this unique leadership development opportunity, the Steens joined other young agricultural leaders from across the Southeast to learn, connect, and advocate for the future of rural communities.

During their trip, they visited the Farm Credit Council and the Funding Corporation, and met with Members of Congress to share their perspectives on the issues facing young farmers today.

“We were honored to have Austin and Brittany serve as outstanding ambassadors for Alabama Ag Credit,” said Amber Pratt, VP of Communications, “Their passion for agriculture, dedication to their community, and commitment to stewardship reflect the very best of what we stand for.”

The Steens operate Hiccup Farm, a small regenerative farm in Troy focused on providing high-quality, sustainably raised food to their family, friends, and neighbors. Although neither grew up farming, stories of their parents’ and grandparents’ agricultural roots inspired them to build their own farming legacy while balancing their family and professional lives.

In addition to participating in the YBS Leadership Program, Austin and Brittany have also been recognized as emerging leaders within Alabama’s farming community. They were recipients of Alabama Ag Credit’s 2023 JumpStart Grant and were named 2024 Specialty Crop Farmers of the Year at the Pike County Farm-City Awards.

Reflecting on their experience, the Steens shared:

“Last week we had the opportunity to connect with other young farmers throughout the Southeast thanks to Alabama Ag Credit! We learned, we wined & dined, we advocated for agriculture, we made great friends, and left feeling so inspired and encouraged. We are sincerely grateful for this opportunity and eagerly awaiting where God is leading our little farm.”

Alabama Ag Credit remains dedicated to supporting young, beginning, and small farmers like the Steens and helping ensure a strong future for agriculture across Alabama and beyond.
