2019 Outstanding Young Farm Family

Alabama Ag Credit and Alabama Farm Credit joined together to present a new John Deere 825i Gator to the Outstanding Young Farm Family (OYFF) winners on Dec. 9, 2019. The rural lending cooperatives awarded the prize during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s annual meeting.

The winners, Luke and Lana Smelley of Hale County, Alabama, operate a catfish, cattle and hay farm. Additionally, Luke manages his father’s ponds. Lana is a licensed architect with her own business.

The Gator was part of a prize package sponsored by ag-related businesses. Alabama Ag Credit and Alabama Farm Credit also presented $500 cash awards to OYFF runners-up Ben and Bethany Johnson of Randolph County and Jamie and Lindsey Roberts of DeKalb County.

The OYFF contest recognizes families who are doing an exceptional job on their farm and are serving in leadership positions in their communities and within the Farmers Federation.
